Four detected driving at over 100mph on Highland roads

25 July 2012

Four out of 177 drivers stopped by police for speeding in Northern Constabulary's area in the past few days were travelling at over 100mph.

One of the four was detected on the A832 and the other three on the A9 in the Highlands.

The speeds were recorded between 07:00 last Friday and 07:00 Monday of this week during a national crackdown on traffic offences.

Insp Derek Paterson said the level of offending was frustrating.

Two other drivers were detected drink-driving, one on the A9 at Carrbridge and another at Balintore in Easter Ross.

Insp Paterson said: "It is very frustrating to see the number of motorists who continue to drive at excessive speed on our roads, despite repeated warnings.

"There is still a hard core of motorists who put themselves and the lives of others at risk by driving at speed."
