Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is ISA?

Intelligent Speed Adaptation is a system that knows the speed limit of the road you are travelling on.

What is the difference between passive and active ISA?

Passive ISA alerts you when exceeding the speed limit whereas active ISA physically restricts the ability of the vehicle to exceed the speed limit by using an intelligent speed limiter.

Who is likely to benefit from using Intelligent Speed Limiters?

All drivers would benefit from using Intelligent Speed Limiters however, the people who would benefit the most are those people with points on their license and commercial operators.  A vehicle fitted with an Intelligent Speed Limiter can deliver huge savings in the overall running costs of their vehicle including a significant reduction in fuel consumption.

How does the technology work?

The technology works by combining GPS (Global Positioning Satellites) with a digital map that contains the road speed limit.  The ISA device receives the GPS signal, it compares its position from the GPS with it’s digital map and displays/uses the speed limit based on it’s position.

How does the Intelligent Speed Limiter work to restrict the speed of a vehicle?

The Intelligent Speed Limiter intercepts the signal from the throttle (accelerator pedal).  It then replicates the throttle signal to the engine management control system.  The Intelligent Speed Limiter receives data from the GPS system and compares it’s position with it’s digital map. It also receives the vehicles speed from the vehicles speedometer.  It compares the two speeds and if the speed from the speedometer exceeds the digital maps speed for that position, the Intelligent Speed Limiter reduces the amount of fuel to the engine to reduce the vehicles speed until it is equal to or less that the speed limit for that road.
